2.4 KW Photo voltaic System & Hybrid PV Water Heater System
PROJECT INTRODUCTION
Walikale Engineering Africa was approached, through one of its directors, by a Partner to assist them in the design and implementation of photo-voltaic and a thermal solar system at a student residence in Bloemfontein, Free State.
The request was made after an initial visit trough the facility to be supplied by both solar systems was conducted by The Partner. The task given were inclusive of energy analysis, demand analysis, facility study, complete system design, components identification and component purchase.
The design phase was conducted in April 2018. The implementation phase stated in May 2018 following the delivery of the purchase equipment.
PROJECT DETAILS
The system powers the kitchen lights, passage lights, sitting room light, outside lights and toilet lights, selected plugs and includes a conversion of electric water heater to hybrid solar water heaters. The basic system requirement would be:
- 13 X 300W photovoltaic panels
- 11X 12V, 500 Ah lead acid battery for storage.
- 2 SWH conversion Kits
PROJECT CURRENT STATE
Currently the PV system is suppling power to the targeted load in the residence and no issues have been reported so far.
The solar thermal system has been installed but not connected as principal source of hot water to the residence’s occupants.
